The Full Groom

Bath, hand-dry, and a scissor or clipper finish cut to the coat in front of us — not to a breed diagram. Four hours at the outside, one dog on the floor.

A full groom here is not a package. It is four hours of somebody’s attention, and the price reflects the coat that turns up rather than the number on the scale. A 9kg cockapoo in a felted winter coat is a longer, harder morning than a 30kg shepherd in good order, and we will not pretend otherwise on the invoice.

What actually happens

Your dog arrives at one of three slots and goes straight onto the table for a coat read — five minutes, fingers and comb, no clippers in the room. That read decides everything afterwards: how many baths, which dryer, whether the length you asked for is still available to us. If the coat is matted past the point where scissors are kind, we will tell you before the first bath, not after.

Then: a degreasing wash, a conditioning wash, and a hand-dry with a stand dryer and a comb working in opposite directions. The dry is the groom. Everything that looks good at the end was decided while the coat was still damp.

Coat read, wash, dry, finish. The dry is where the four hours actually go.

What you get back

A dog that is dry to the skin, a nail length that will still be correct in three weeks, and a coat note — a card that says what we found, what we did, and what will be a problem next time if nothing changes at home. People keep them. One client has four years of them in a kitchen drawer.

What we will not do

No dye, no glitter, no stencils, no “creative” work of any kind. No shaving a double coat to the skin because summer is coming — a stripped-out husky is a sunburnt husky, and the coat you ruin in June does not come back the same in October. And no muzzle for our convenience: if a dog cannot be finished calmly, it goes home part-done, with a plan and half the fee refunded, and we try again in a fortnight.
